I chose Copenhagen for a quick 3-day escape because it’s the perfect blend of cozy Scandinavian charm and easy walkability. I’d always heard about its colorful streets, relaxed atmosphere, and bike-first lifestyle, and I wanted a destination where I could slow down, explore beautiful neighborhoods on foot, and enjoy great food without rushing. Copenhagen felt like the ideal city for a short but refreshing adventure—and it absolutely delivered.

Day 1

Day 1 – Arrival & First Impressions

We landed in Copenhagen in the early afternoon, around 2–3 PM, after our flight from Türkiye. Getting into the city was incredibly easy. We bought a one-way ticket right at the airport exit and headed straight to our hostel.

Copenhagen’s public transportation is honestly a dream—you can get around effortlessly with either a multi-day pass or simple single-ride tickets.

After checking into our hotel and resting for a bit, we headed out to explore. Our first stop was Rosenborg Castle. On the way, we grabbed some bakery treats from Buka (yummy sweet treats! Also grabbed some matcha from Espresso House!), then enjoyed a little break in the park next to the castle (which is called The King's Garden), chatting and taking in the greenery. Since it was our travel day, we were already a bit tired, so we kept things slow and relaxed.

We wandered around the castle grounds, then made our way to the Botanical Gardens for a peaceful walk among the plants and quiet paths. Later in the evening, we went to Strøget, the main shopping street, and had hot pot at Sanku—which we absolutely loved. Last, we took a stroll around Strøget before we went back to our hostel - lots of little shops for souvenirs including the famous Danish cookies!

It was a calm, lovely first day to ease into the city.

Day 2

Day 2 - The City Exploration on Foot!

We started our second day by leaving the hotel and heading straight to Grød, where we had delicious açaí bowls—highly recommended. After breakfast, our first stop was Nyhavn (I still don’t know if I’m pronouncing it right!), the famous harbor with colorful buildings lined up perfectly along the water. It’s right in the center, so we spent plenty of time taking photos, sitting by the canal, and watching the boats go by. While walking, we also saw the beautiful Christiansborg and Amalienborg Palaces.

After soaking in the atmosphere, we made our way toward Freetown Christiania, exploring the neighborhoods on the way. We passed by Frederik’s Church (the Marble Church) and visited the Round Tower as well. The streets were full of vibrant buildings and little details that made walking around so enjoyable.

Later in the afternoon, we headed to the Nyboder district—the area with the iconic yellow houses. We took a slow stroll and treated ourselves to a really good cinnamon roll. As the day went on, we continued walking all the way to Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress that’s now a peaceful park. We rolled around on the grass, enjoyed the views, and of course, visited The Little Mermaid statue. Everyone we met was incredibly kind, which made the day even nicer.

We ended our evening with a healthy dinner at WeDoGreens, where you can build your own custom bowl—fresh, simple, and perfect after a full day of walking.

It was a very chill day overall, full of color, exploring, and miles and miles of walking—we didn’t use public transport at all!

Day 3

Day 3 – Deer Park Adventure & A Calm Goodbye

Our third and final day in Copenhagen started with breakfast at Wulff & Konstali, where you can pick small tapas-style dishes to create your own personalized breakfast plate. We ordered different combinations to try as much as possible, and we loved everything—especially the matcha.

After breakfast, we wanted a more active, adventurous day, so we headed to Dyrehaven (Deer Park) near Klampenborg. It’s very close to Copenhagen, and since we were staying in Vesterbro—just 10–15 minutes from the city center—the tram ride took no more than 30–40 minutes.

Right at the entrance of the park, there’s a small café where you can rent bikes or simply start walking. We rented bicycles and spent about one to two hours riding through the forest. The highlight was definitely seeing real deer up close—I had never seen deer in the wild before, and it felt like such a peaceful moment of connection with nature.

In the late afternoon, we returned to Copenhagen and made our way to ILLUM, a beautiful department-store area on Strøget with a rooftop terrace. We ate another healthy meal there—a delicious wrap and a healthier-style burger—while enjoying the view over the city. Before heading to ILLUM, we also stopped by Olufsvej—a beautiful street with colorful houses. Just a gentle reminder: people actually live there, so it’s important to be respectful when taking photos.

Afterwards, we walked along Strøget to pick up a few souvenirs, then visited Nyhavn and the canals once more to see everything lit up at night. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Copenhagen.

Copenhagen treated us so well, and we left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and very grateful.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • Looking back, the only thing I’d change is the length of the trip. Copenhagen deserves at least a few more days! We didn’t get the chance to explore any museums or spend time in Tivoli Park, and I definitely wish we hadn’t had to skip those.
