The rare chance to board down an active volcano brought me to this underrated Central American gem. Wild Pacific waves, motorbiking around a volcanic island inside a freshwater lake, and soaking up the sunshine at a laid-back surfer hub made the week-long adventure unforgettable.

A birthday gift. A weekend getaway. A first-ever trip abroad. Turns out it was all three! The otherworldly “Land of Fire and Ice” inspired my soul to pursue traveling the world. My long-awaited return to Iceland would be equally special, sharing my favorite country with the special lady who stole my heart. Geothermal hot springs, roaring waterfalls, black-sand beaches, dramatic landscapes, and adorable puffins made this short holiday one for the ages.

The enchanting waters, immense rock walls, and fairy-tale villages of the Norwegian fjords are best explored by boat. Starting from historic Bergen and its colorful wooden wharf, this voyage through Norway’s longest and deepest fjord guided us through some of Scandinavia’s most dramatic scenery. Cruising the narrow waterways between high mountains delivers a glimpse into rustic farms, authentic Norwegian charm, and peaceful sanctuaries every time you disembark.
