Switzerland has always been on my bucket list!
I traveled to Switzerland because I wanted to have a different kind of trip, focused on nature, hiking, mountains, and lakes. Visiting Switzerland had been a dream of mine for a long time, and I was excited to finally explore its beautiful landscapes in person.
One tunnel under the Alps and Switzerland turns Italian - palm trees, lasagna by the lake and river water so green it looks fake. Everyone does Zurich and the mountains and never goes south, which is exactly why you should.
Our family loves skiing and is always looking for a new destination. Matterhorn is one of the most majestic mountains in the world so we thought it was a must see!
We wanted to choose the quieter places. To step away from big cities and famous capitals, and instead follow a route shaped by small towns, winding roads, and landscapes that slow you down without asking.
This journey wasn’t about ticking boxes. It was about crossing borders gently, watching architecture change, hearing languages shift, and feeling how each place carries its own rhythm. Castles on hills, canals through old towns, lakes reflecting mountains—each stop felt like part of the same story.
We wanted a trip that felt romantic in its own way: calm but rich, simple but deeply beautiful. And this route gave us exactly that.
My daughter and I have always dreamed of traveling Switzerland by train and hiking through the Alps–it was a trip of a lifetime!
Met friends there on study abroad
Switzerland will eat your budget alive, so I did it the only cheap way there is - a friend with a car and no plan. Five days got me a lake so clear you can see the statue on the bottom, a village you can't drive to, a rainbow in the Rhine Falls and a casino that has since shut down (not my fault).
