Day 1

The first day was mostly spent on the road, as we drove all the way from the Netherlands to Switzerland. It was a long and tiring journey, and by the time we arrived, it was already the end of the day. We went straight to find a place to sleep with our tent and found a great spot through the Park4Night app. It was quiet and private, with a beautiful view and access to water. We set up our tent, cooked dinner, and finally relaxed after the long drive, ready to start our adventure over the next few days.

Day 2

We woke up early, cooked our breakfast, and drove to the Seealpsee area. From there, we did a short hike until we reached the valley, and the scenery was beautiful. There was a peaceful lake surrounded by mountains and cows, which made the whole place feel like a typical Swiss postcard. We cooked our lunch there and spent some time walking around and enjoying the views. There was also a small shop selling local handmade cheeses and a restaurant nearby. Later, we stopped for a milkshake before starting our hike back to the parking area. It was a full day outdoors, and we loved it so much. We decided to sleep in the same spot as the night before.

Day 3

We woke up early, cooked our breakfast, and started driving again, this time for around three hours. Driving through Switzerland is already an experience itself, as the views along the way are beautiful. We stopped at the Rhone Glacier and did a short hike to see it from above before walking down to get a closer look. It was my first time seeing a glacier, and it was amazing to see it up close. Later, we found a place to camp in the mountains, set up our tent, and cooked dinner before settling in for the night.

Day 4

The next day, we drove to Fiesch, where we took a cable car up to the top of Eggishorn. We paid around CHF 47 for a ticket that took us to the top and back down from the middle station. From the top, we had an incredible view of the Aletsch Glacier, the largest and longest glacier in the Alps. We took some time to enjoy the scenery before starting our hike down the mountain. The views along the way were beautiful, and we saw several sheep along the trail. At some point, we decided to set up our tent halfway down the mountain, as we found a perfect spot with a beautiful view. We unpacked everything, cooked dinner, and ended the day watching an amazing sunset from our little camping spot.

Day 5

We woke up early and continued our hike down the mountain. Along the way, we stopped at a small restaurant in the area and had some bread with sausage and fresh orange juice. After that, we continued towards the Aletsch Glacier, which was even more impressive up close because of its size. We spent some time there enjoying the scenery before heading back towards a nearby lake, where we cooked our lunch and took a break. Later, we went on another hike to a beautiful viewpoint with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. As the day came to an end, we found a good spot to set up our tent and settled in for the night, ready to rest for the next day.

Day 6

We woke up early, cooked our breakfast, and started another hike. Along the way, we passed through a tunnel and continued down the mountain until we reached the cable car station halfway down. We took the cable car the rest of the way down and arrived back at the parking area feeling very happy after such an amazing adventure. From there, we drove to Brienz, where we spent the afternoon by the lake, relaxing and enjoying the warm and beautiful weather. That evening, we decided to stay at a camping. It was really nice to have more comfort and proper facilities after several days of camping in the mountains. We cooked pancakes for dinner and had a good night's sleep.

Day 7

On our last day, we cooked breakfast and got back on the road towards the Netherlands. Along the way, we stopped at a bakery filled with delicious-looking pastries, bread, and other local treats. We bought some bread, and I also tried a Zigerkrapfen, a traditional Swiss pastry filled with Ziger cheese, a type of fresh cheese made from whey. It was something I had never tried before and was surprisingly delicious. After our bakery stop, we continued our journey back to the Netherlands, enjoying the beautiful Swiss landscapes and mountain views along the way.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • I would remember to carry some cash, as we found a few places that didn’t accept cards.

  • I would spend more nights at campsites, alternating between camping in nature and staying at places with more facilities and comfort. After several days camping in the mountains, it was really nice to have a proper shower, kitchen, and a more comfortable place to rest.
