On top of the list is the first prime minister of Nyasaland, and the first life president of the republic, Hastings Kamuzu Banda, who is also rumored to have been crushing with the late queen Elizabeth II.

Months earlier, during an Erasmus program in Bansko, I met a wonderful group of Turkish friends who instantly made me feel welcome, understood, and supported. Our connection was effortless, and when they invited me to visit them in Ankara, I knew I had to go.

I also wanted to unwind on Tulum’s beautiful beaches and explore its magical cenotes hidden in the jungle.
