Malingunde
A long week with studies, an overwhelmed mind, a tired body and a soul that needs rest. Apparently that’s all it takes for one to abandon every ounce of logic, and instead to go for play and pleasure. My day was like this when I decided to drop everything and go to Malingunde Dam to paint (it’s also called Kamuzu Dam II). Too overwhelming to continue. Too tired to concentrate, I took my keys and started off.
All I took were my painting materials, my cooler box and some ice. I always have a whiskey bottle in the cooler so I was set for a relaxing moment. i drove down through dirt/gravel roads from my school. I didn’t want to use tarmac roads because they would have taken me longer to get to the dam. On the way I met a companion and took off to the dam. It was weekday. We came across villages and local houses, thatched with grass. We crossed a bridge, and some clean water in it. Way cold too.
Upon reaching the dam, we paid an entry fee. We found the space empty, with only a couple around, doing their thing. The guards around the area said it was because we came during weekday, otherwise there are people over the weekend. Most come with families and barbecue in the premises.
Before starting my painting journey, we walked around the premises enjoying the view. Took some pictures and played with water.
What I loved about the whole thing is the peace and quiet. The tranquil environment. I also saw some locals fishing in the dam, using hooks and another group on a canoe. They were fishing Chambo (Tilapia ). Chambo is endemic to Malawian waters.
After the dam, I went to Kumudzi for food as I was famished. I had some pork chops and fries. They were quite tasty too.
