    The museums

    - Don't think we have had so much fun in the museums such as the museums in Copenhagen. There are so many to see so you can never be bored in this city.

    Walking the streets

    - Beautiful streets to get lost in. Although there are so many people around, its as if you can barely feel them or recognise they are there because of the beauty you are surrounded by.

    History

    - Get yourself on a tour with a guide whether by boat or by foot because this city is rich in history!

Day 1

We had a late arrival into Copenhagen which was greeted wonderfully with two traditional beers from our Airbnb host. We had lots of questions about Danish lifestyle, which secured what country I would love to live in if I was to ever leave Australia.

Even after being almost a week in Germany, our German friend chose to meet us in Copenhagen (only in Europe could you casually meet up with a friend in another country). We met up with Leonie and her partner at The Little Mermaid - another one of those attractions you know you should see but it does absolutely nothing for you. Nor is it really that impressive.

It was nice to stroll around the parks of Copenhagen and catch up with Leonie. We passed through Gefion Fountain, Kastellet, Frederik's Church, and Amalienborg Palace.

We stopped at an Asian Noodle restaurant for dinner, but it was pretty expensive so we just shared the one meal. Though the daylight was still out (at 9:00pm) we were ready to head back to the Airbnb, but Leonie showed us the Too Good to Go app - designed to reduce food wastage.

If you're looking to get around Europe on a budget then this is your ticket! Restaurants can sell dishes or food that they are likely to throw away for a reduced price. A game changer that saved us for the remainder of our trip.

Day 2

We invested in the Copenhagen card - which I would highly recommend - that allowed us access into a number of different attractions around Copenhagen.

We started by taking the boat ride around Copenhagen seeingall of its architecture and learning about its history and how it became the city it is.

We then spent the remainder of the day floating about the fun museums they have on offer. Our favourites were The Illusion Museum, The Guinness World Record Museum, and the IKONO Copenhagen.

Super fun museums to visit, and all within walking distance of each other so you get to truly enjoy the streets of Copenhagen.

We used the app for dinner, so I don't have much to say about the restaurants of Copenhagen apart from the fact that they all LOOK amazing.

Day 3

We still had a couple items on the Copenhagen card that we wanted to tick off.

Knowing that the weather was putting it on for us we headed for Rosenborg Castle. The castle itself was very… castley. But there was the underground part of the castle that showed the Crown Jewels and the weapons that they stored here - that was a touch more eye catching.

We then enjoyed the Gardens that surrounded the castle and enjoyed watching the locals playing football or throwing frisbees. And, once again, used the app to get ourselves some nice gourmet burgers for lunch for a nice price from Philly & Burgers!

We still had some time up our belt to go and visit the zoo so we raced there and sped our way through seeing all the animals. It was a nice zoo, and we managed to finish all of it in about two hours - 3pm is a very quiet time to work your way through a zoo if you want to miss crowds.

We finished the night with what we were most looking forward to in Copenhagen - Tivoli Gardens. And, even on a budget (not paying for any rides or food) this place is pretty magical. We enjoyed walking around and seeing sunset and watching the park light up after dark. A very easy place to get lost in.

Day 4

We thoroughly enjoyed Copenhagen, but given how expensive it was to stay there we decided to head to Malmo, Sweden to say that we had been to Sweden.

Only a short train ride away, we arrived in at late morning, and after a little hassle storing our luggage we were on the move around town.

We found a cute free agricultural art museum in town to spend an hour or so. The town itself presented the typical Scandinavian vibe we felt in Copenhagen too. We strolled down to Scaniaparken and found a spot against the shore to watch reckless Swed's jump off the wall into the ocean.

It is a beautiful town, highlighted by the Turning Torso. After using the app to find a cheap sushi meal we fell asleep on a patch of grass in the sun.

Not an adventurous day in Malmo, but the type of day you sometimes need in amongst weeks of travelling and sight seeing.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • Bitten the budget bullet and bought a few traditional meals here to really feel the culture of the food
