Day 1

Welcome to Las Palmas! The capitol of Gran Canaria, and the biggest city of all the Canary Islands. The perfect base for your stay over the next few days. The city is buzzing with people from all over, a large amount of tourists from the U.K., expats from Italy, and of course the locals. As someone who personally doesn't love the idea of an overwhelming city, Las Palmas felt so welcoming.

I think it was the promenade stretching for miles along the oceanfront, and the amazing sunsets, that really sold me on this city. That, or the food. Between the hole-in-the-wall tapas bars, or the authentic Italian pizzerias, I started to realize this little island was a blend of so many things to love!

On the first day, you've just landed, it's the perfect day to get your bearings and settle in. I stayed at a hostel, Kite and Surf Nomad House, which was perfect for my solo trip. However, if you prefer a hotel, I can also recommend Hotel Livvo La Escarletta. Both of these accommodations are conveniently located near Las Canteras Beach.

After you've checked in and feel settled, stroll the 3km of golden sands and take in the tropical atmosphere. There are so many cafes and bars on the promenade to choose from. Sitting back with your beverage of choice to people watch is one of my favorite things to do!

For dinner, I recommend Bululucanarias! Such a cozy spot, with incredible Venezuelan food!

Day 2

Day number 2, is time to explore more of the island. The second most popular area to stay on Gran Canaria is Maspalomas. This area is a bit more expensive, with more resorts, and tourism. However, the highlight for me was the incredible sand dunes, and it is well worth going to see them.

The public buses on the island are easy to navigate, however if you're open to renting a car, this is definitely the best option! I used to public buses, and it took about an hour or so the arrive in Maspalomas. This part of the island also get's the most sun, so if it's rainy in Las Palmas, head down south and it's likely you'll find some sunshine.

Take a book with you, relax on the beach, enjoy browsing the market-like shops along the waterfront. Once the sun starts setting I'd head to the sand dunes. It is a really magical place to watch the sky change colors, and see the moon shine over endless miles of sand.

Once it's dark, head back to Las Palmas for dinner! I'd recommend trying Italian-- there are so many Italian restaurants here!! You can't really go wrong... I went to Ristorante Pizzeria Boccaccio and it was delish.

Day 3

Time for another day trip! There are so many beautiful places to explore on the island. Some things are necessary to have a car for (hiking Roque Nublo)... but for our purposes this itinerary it public bus friendly!! So today we're going to take the bus to the charming town Agaete, right next to the fishing village Puerto de las Nieves.

It's a quiet spot, a small town, but a fun little day trip for wine lovers! Take the bus to Agaete, and then it's easiest from here to take a 15 minute taxi to the winery Bodega Los Berrazales. Just the taxi ride alone has stunning views! And the winery is a treat.

Here you can tour the vineyard, coffee, and fruit plantation. The 200-year-old estate is known for producing award-winning volcanic wines, specialized coffee, and offering tastings with local cheese and jam, surrounded by spectacular mountain views.

The people who work here are passionate about what they do, and are so friendly! It's a unique experience, in a small intimate setting. I went on my own, and absolutely loved it.

From here, take a taxi straight to Puerto de las Nieves, this is the real highlight of Agaete. This is where the ferries from Tenerife arrive, with a very small pebble beach. Pick one of the waterfront fisheries, to have some incredibly fresh seafood! I enjoyed Dedo de Dios, but you can't go wrong.

Once your ready, head back to Las Palmas. Ideally your back in time for a sunset stroll and some gelato on the beach!

Day 4

For the final full day trip, I'd recommend taking a bus to Teror. I absolutely loved this bus ride! It's really beautiful views (try to sit on the right side of the bus, if your facing forward, on the drive up). I was told to go to Teror for the Sunday markets they have, but if this doesn't work out timing wise for you, any day is still beautiful to visit!

Teror is a picturesuqe town in the northern mountains of Gran Canaria. It's also very small, you don't need a ton of time here. The journey to get there is part of the highlight! Once you arrive you'll be able to stroll around and further appreciate the views. There are some nature trails in the area such as Finca de Osorio. Located just 2 km from the town centre, it's. perfect for hiking and bird watching!

Since this will be your final night on the island, head back to Gran Canaria for a final meal. It only feels right to enjoy some spanish tapas! I would recommend Bembe for the best cocktails and food. Try the chicken empenadas!
