We discovered Philly due to a soccer game that my husband was excited to attend. It was a very quick trip, but we loved the city (and probably will come back soon).

Trip Recap

  • Days 1 to 2: Philadelphia amazed us in just 1.5 days; we can't wait to return!

Highlights

  • Rose Icon

Definitely, the ease of walking around the city on foot and with a stroller. Very safe, beautiful place with amazing sidewalks where you can stroll around comfortably, without any difficulties (parents will understand). For those who love history, there are good options for tours and very interesting museums.

Days 1 to 2

We stayed for just 1.5 days in Philadelphia, yet the city delivered so much that it felt like a full weekend adventure. Some places have that magic. Philly is one of them.

Deeply rooted in American history and packed with culture, art, and world class museums, Philadelphia is a dream destination for travelers who enjoy learning while exploring. We absolutely loved the experience.

For a short stay, location is everything, and we could not have chosen better. We stayed at the Cambria Hotel Philadelphia Downtown Center City, right in the heart of the city. From there, it was easy to walk to museums, restaurants, cafes, and iconic landmarks, with other attractions just a few minutes away by car.

We did not get breakfast from the hotel, so we tried the Tuscany Cafe. Cute place, amazing atmosphere, wonderful soundtrack, unfortunately is super small (if you are in a group, probably this is not your place to eat). We sat outside in the morning, but it was super good and windy. They have a large number of options to eat, and each picture makes our choices more difficult. The food was great (panini caprese and prosciutto croissants). I just thought the customer service could be more kind to customers.

We kicked off the day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This iconic building is not only home to an impressive collection but also to one of the most famous movie moments ever filmed. Yes, those steps. The scene of Stallone running up them is pure cinema history. Unfortunately, the stairs were temporarily closed due to preparations for the July 4th celebrations, so my classic photo and victory run will have to wait for a future trip. Another excuse to come back.

From there, we enjoyed a pleasant walk to the Rodin Museum. The museum is simply stunning. Having visited the Rodin Museum in Paris before, I was excited to see his work again, and it did not disappoint. There is something powerful and timeless about his sculptures that makes you want to slow down and really observe.

By then, hunger had officially kicked in, and no visit to Philadelphia is complete without a cheesesteak. We stopped at Shay's Steaks for lunch, and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was great, but what really stood out to me was the bread. It added a special touch that elevated the whole experience.

After lunch, we continued exploring on foot. The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is breathtaking, both inside and out. Right after that, we crossed Logan Square, where it was fascinating to see flags representing countries from all over the world waving together.

Just nearby, we found one of the city’s most recognizable photo spots, the LOVE Park. The famous LOVE sign is a must for pictures and captures the creative and welcoming spirit of the city.

Philadelphia’s historic district is truly impressive. Walking through it feels like stepping back in time. Highlights include the Benjamin Franklin Museum, Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell Center. Be prepared for lines, but they are absolutely worth it.

We wrapped up the trip at the Liberty Bell Center gift shop, which offers creative souvenirs and a few tasty treats as well. A perfect final stop before heading out.

We will definitely be back. Philadelphia surprised us in the best possible way. The city is incredibly walkable, well organized, and thoughtfully accessible. It truly feels like a place designed for everyone. On top of that, prices were very reasonable, allowing us to eat well and enjoy the city without stress.

For a short trip that felt full and rich, Philly delivered more than we expected and left us wanting more.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • Maybe find another place to eat cheesesteak and stay a few more days to enjoy it more.
